Our Test Cutters, Coordinator and Sr.Cutting Consultant will receive software training on Gerber Accumark 3D modelling and basic platform. Tester Cutters will have a set number of hours to explore 6 typical work scenarios, during which time they will document their experience, and results. Patterns developed will be tested for accuracy in muslin, and in a quarter scale format. New creative platforms such as 3D virtual fittings and custom fabric design & printing will be the capstone of the research and take place in collaboration with 3 professional Theatrical Costume Designers.

Work Scenarios:

Scenario 1 (20 hours)

Creating a customized Sloper/Body Block
This is an excellent starting point because this is the first step in bespoke pattern drafting. The sloper becomes a template off of which the cutter builds more complex patterns. It will be a good first step for our pattern cutters to become more acquainted with drafting in the Software

Scenario 2 (50 hours)

Scenario 4 (30 hours)

Made to Measure Grading for Chorus
Our Cutters will use the made to measure grading function to alter one original pattern into 3 customized sizes. We believe this could be an invaluable tool for more efficient production of chorus costumes. Each tester will attempt a different style of chorus costume based on popular theatrical productions.

Scenario 5 (30 hours)

3D modelling
Test Cutters will assess the length of time it takes to translate their historical patterns to a 3D model, which could then be used to discuss fit with the designer/director. If the results are accurate, and time saving this could really assist wardrobes in short rehearsal periods where access to an actor is limited.

Scenario 6 (50 hours)

Start to finish costume production process with digital integration and custom printed fabrics
Test Cutters will assess the workflow between Designer, pattern cutter, and software. The designs illustrated by our volunteer designers all require custom printed fabrics, so we can assess the use of software in custom fabric production
  • How fluid is the process?
  • How stable is the resolution?
  • How much fabric will we use?
  • Are the specs compatible and easy to send to Canadian custom fabric print companies?
